William is a researcher, innovator and entrepreneur in the life science, with a 20-year track record in company creation, development and financing. After a biochemistry degree at Oxford, a molecular genetics PhD at Warwick and a postdoc at Stanford, William took a lectureship at the University of Bath for three years, and then moved to industry with PA Consulting Group, and then to venture capital with Merlin Ventures. In 1999 he founded his first start-up.
He has co-founded another four companies, a charity and a scientific journal, and supported many others as advisor, management or NED. William has helped raise over £60M in early stage funds for these and other start-ups in UK biotechnology. Three of the companies that he wrote business plans for subsequently floated.
William is currently founder and CSO Five Alarm Bio Ltd, a seed stage start-up in anti-aging medicine. He is author of over 90 papers on subjects as diverse as drug chemistry, sewage plant management, company law and extraterrestrial life, and five books. William continues active scientific research, and since 2009 has held a part-time research post at MIT (Cambridge, MA).
