Innovation Showcase 2017 Case Study

Teesside-based business Grn was in last year’s Innovation Showcase at VentureFest Tees Valley, we caught up with them 6 months later to find out how the Innovation Showcase and the connections made at the event helped them grow their business.

We caught up with Peter Lillie, Commercial Director/Partner of Teesside-based Grn, which creates ethically made and sustainably produced sportswear, to talk about how they found success at VentureFest Tees Valley 2017 as part of the Innovation Showcase.

The innovative company, which makes sportswear out of recycled plastic bottles and old fishing nets, has seen the business grow in more ways than they thought. Peter tells us their story…

“We were selected to be in the Innovation Showcase – an opportunity for regional businesses to promote their latest products, services, and innovations. Being in the Innovation Showcase provided us with a lot of publicity, which continued after the event. This includes being invited onto a local radio show where we were able to talk about our unique business, as well as issues such as sustainability and recycled materials.

“We also made the Small Business 100 list in August 2017, which resulted in more press, as well as an invitation to 10 Downing Street, which was a significant achievement for us.

“Not only did we gain a lot out of being in the Innovation Showcase at VentureFest Tees Valley, but we also attended FinanceCamp at the event, which gave Grn a real boost. We had some excellent meetings with investors which were brilliant in terms of moving our processes forward.

“We are so happy with the results we got out of exhibiting at VentureFest Tees Valley. They’ve helped our business grow through the press, networking and investment opportunities that they provide. We would definitely recommend attending to other North East businesses.”
